Un-fucking-believable... I got my x64 Vista all nicely setup with a Linux
dual boot. The system was running nicely, working and rebooting between OSen
without a care in the world. I was happy.
So, being happy, I then upgraded my Acronis TrueImage to the latest version
that supports x64 Vista and created a TrueImage safe zone and did a full
image back up of Vista into it. While messing around a little later I
installed some shitware that wouldn't run properly on Vista x64 and decided,
just as a test, to restore from the TrueImage safe zone to make sure it
worked.
10 minutes later, the restore was complete, however Vista would boot but
couldn't find any fucking user profiles so explorer.exe was not started. I
ran the task manager and started explorer.exe manually, which gave me a
temporary profile, but the Windows Explorer was totally fucked - I could not
copy or move files, the entire control panel was gone, and applications
would not start, either from the Start menu or from within Windows Explorer.
Then I decided to try and boot Linux. No go. GrUB would die with a disk not
found error.
So, I booted the Vista DVD and elected to repair the system, but the
repairer could not identify any issues at all. As far as it was concerned,
the Vista installation was ok. I rebooted and tried to logon again, same
problem.
On investigation, A-fucking-cronis had completely rooted my system, well and
truly fucked it beyond all use. Acronis had booted the safe zone as drive C:
and restored Vista into the correct partition, however the boot partition
now became partition D:, and partition D: was now marked as active. GrUB got
fucked because it was trying to get its boot files from the active
partition.
Un-fucking-believable. All that work down the fucking drain. Fuck you,
Acronis.
Sooooooo... believing the problem was caused by the Acronis safe zone being
marked as C:, I booted from an Acronis startup disk and restored from a
second image. I always make two images and store them on different disks,
however when Vista booted, it again could not find any fucking user
profiles...
Fuck you twice, Acronis. Fucking cuntware it is.
